What is White Maeng Da?  

Kratom comes in four different colors, and each color also branches off into varying strains. 

For example, the Maeng Da strain comes in each of the four colors: red, white, green, and gold. The combination of effects offered within each color is almost the same. 

For example, White Maeng Da and all other white strains share very similar energizing effects.  What differs within the same color is the level of potency. 

The following list is a quick description of the Maeng Da variants: 

Red Maeng Da: The most relaxing and best pain reliever of the Maeng Da strains. Reds are usually very sedative, but Red Maeng Da seems to be an exception. 

White Maeng Da: Not very good for pain or anxiety, but the best of all kratom strains for energy. 

Gold Maeng Da: A hybrid of Red and White Maeng Da, but leaning a bit more toward its white energizing counterpart. 

Green Maeng Da: Another hybrid of Red and white Maeng Da and my all-time favorite. It’s great for anxiety and focus/motivation because of the strong euphoria, great for pain (although slightly less than Red Maeng Da), and a decent energy boost. 

The strain’s color is determined by the color of the veins on the kratom leaves. For White Maeng Da, the plant is harvested once the veins become white. 

The name Maeng Da literally translates to “Pimp Grade” in Thailand. The name was derived by farmers in Thailand when they set out to create a new hybrid kratom plant that would surpass all others in potency. 

The potency of a strain depends on the concentration of the alkaloids, Mitragynine, and 7-Hydroximitragynine, found in the leaves. More alkaloids mean stronger effects. 

These alkaloids bind to the same opioid receptors in our brains as pharmaceutical drugs, which is why they produce very similar benefits.

Just in case you’re wondering, most drug tests cannot detect kratom. Only drug tests used by law enforcement agencies, such as the 10-panel drug test, may be able to detect kratom’s metabolites.

Unlike the other colors, White Maeng Da doesn’t produce a wide range of benefits. Instead, it only produces two: energy and some appetite suppression. 

Pro Tip: Don’t use White Maeng Da for anxiety relief. It can actually do the complete opposite.

White Maeng Da produces the best and strongest energy boost of all kratom strains. It is the king of energy. 

However, don’t expect the same type of energy as caffeine. White Maeng Da’s energy boost is a bit more gradual and balanced. It packs less punch but doesn’t produce a spiraling crash. 

If you ask me, I prefer this type of energy boost over caffeine any day. However, if you want the best of both worlds, you can mix White Maeng Da with coffee or energy drinks. 

If you’re sensitive to stimulants I wouldn’t mix the two, otherwise feel free to experiment. I’ve yet to experience any negative side effects from mixing. 

One thing to keep in mind when trying to obtain an energy boost from any kratom strain is the dose. To acquire an energy boost, you have to take slightly less than your average dose. 

For example, if you normally take 4 grams to treat pain or anxiety, take 2-3 to obtain energy. Kratom is a type of plant that produces different effects depending on the size of the dose. 

If you’ve never used kratom, simply follow the step-by-step process I’ve outlined below in the “Finding Your White Maeng Da Dose” section.  

The increased energy can last anywhere from 3-5 hours, and it can be used to help with: 

  • Long Strenuous Tasks
  • Lethargy
  • A Pick Me Up

Most kratom strains inhibit your appetite, and White Maeng Da is no exception. This effect can be very useful when trying to: 

  • Lose Weight
  • Diet
  • Have a Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

The effect lasts for about 2-5 hours and can be used to your advantage. 

I suggest taking White Maeng Da via the toss and wash for appetite suppression, but any form of consumption will do. 

How To Take White Maeng Da 

There are three main ways in which you can take your White Maeng Da, and which one you choose depends on whether you want fast results, more flavor, or to get the best bang for your buck.

The three most popular ways to take White Maeng Da are:

  • Toss and Wash
  • Capsules
  • Kratom Tea

The doses for each of these methods vary, so make sure you read all three sections before trying it for the first time.

While the main ingredient of White Maeng Da Kratom Powder remains constant in all three options, each one will have a slight difference in their potency.

While we say that how you decide to take it is based on convenience and how fast you want to experience its effects, ultimately, it is up to you to decide how you want to take White Maeng Da.

Let’s start with the Toss and Wash method.

This is by far my favorite way to take White Maeng Da since it lets you consume it quickly, produces rapid results, and when the effects do kick in, they are much stronger than Kratom tea or capsules

To take your Kratom this way, simply put the White Maeng Da in your mouth, take a sip of water and, swirl it in your mouth, then just swallow it.

People tend to avoid taking Kratom this way since the powder is extremely bitter, and the texture is not very appealing, either. However, this is the most efficient method of taking Kratom.

The Toss and Wash method will deliver the effects within the first 5-10 minutes and last around 3-5 hours. This method will also be more potent than others.

Tip: Use cold water to reduce the bitterness

Kratom capsules are perfect if you want to avoid the bitter taste of the tea or to avoid the texture and taste of the toss-and-wash method. Also, since Kratom is in pill form, it makes it portable and convenient to take with you.

The capsules are made with a pharmaceutical-grade vegetable casing to avoid allergic reactions and will contain 0.7 grams of powder

No silicone content is used in the making of the capsules

Although the capsules are portable and convenient, it is important to note that it will take around 30-45 minutes to feel the effects. The effects will last 3-5 hours with this method as well.

If you are looking for a method with instant relief, then we suggest you use the toss-and-wash method instead.

Making yourself some Kratom tea is another option instead of the toss-and-wash method. Just boil some water and add that to a container with your Kratom.

It is important to never boil your Kratom powder or leaves with water. Doing so will destroy the alkaloids responsible for medicinal effects

This is another fast-acting method since you start to feel the initial effects in 5-10 minutes. Like other methods, the effects last between 3-5 hours.

It will take you about 25 minutes to prepare the tea, and the flavor will be bitter, so if you are looking for something fast, this might not be the best method. You can add things like honey to reduce the bitterness of the tea.

We usually suggest tea to people who don’t have busy schedules, don’t mind/are used to the bitter flavors, and enjoy drinking some tea!

Finding Your White Maeng Da Dose

We do not provide a universal dose for everyone since different doses affect people differently, and too high of a dose can cause unwanted side effects. 

For example, 5 grams might be a great dose for one person but could trigger the notorious side effect known as a nauseous Kratom headache.

Because of this, we recommend you experiment with doses over time if you are new to taking Kratom. One more important note is that you should not take Kratom twice a day when experimenting, as it could produce negative side effects.

Here are some basic rules to follow, regardless of the method you use to take your Kratom:

  1. When experimenting with your dose at first, stick to one method of taking it until you find the right dose for you.
  2. Don’t take Kratom twice a day when experimenting. 
  3. Take White Maeng Da at least two hours after your last meal
  4. Dosages will vary depending on which method you use to take the Kratom. 5 grams using toss and wash will be more potent than the tea.

Now, let’s look at the factors that will change your dosage.

Weight: Like most other substances you take, the more you weigh, the more Kratom you have to take.

Gender: Generally, men will have to take more Kratom than women, regardless of weight. 

Food: The more food you have in your system, the weaker the effects of the White Maeng Da will be.

Tolerance: Whether you have used Kratom before or not, some people are more tolerant of it than others. It is entirely possible for two people who weigh the same to require different doses.

Toss And Wash

When figuring out how much Kratom to use when doing the toss and wash method, we recommend starting with a lower dose of 2 grams if you weigh under 200 pounds and 3 grams if you weigh over 200 pounds.

Make sure to wait 30 minutes before deciding whether or not that is the right dose for you. If your desired effects were achieved, then this is now your dose.

If the effects felt weak, or if you didn’t feel them at all, increase your dose by one gram the following day.

Repeat this process once a day until you start to feel your desired effects. Once you do, that dose is your dose.

Capsules 

The process for capsules is similar to the process of the toss and wash method.

Start off with 3 capsules if you weigh under 200 pounds and 4 capsules if you weigh over 200 pounds.

If the effects were weak or nonexistent, increase the dose by adding one capsule the next day.

Continue the process of adding one capsule per day until the desired effects are reached.

Kratom Tea

When making tea, you will have to use more powder than the toss-and-wash method to produce the same effects.

Best for Potency:

An alternative to Kratom powder would be Kratom leaves.

You can grind the leaves into a powder via a coffee grinder, and this will produce more potent results. You can also use this powder you created from the leaves for the toss-and-wash method.

We suggest you start at 4 grams if you are under 200 pounds and 6 grams if you are over 200 pounds.

It is important to wait around 30-60 minutes before drinking the tea to allow the hot water to extract the alkaloids.

After drinking the tea, wait another 30-60 minutes to feel the effects of the White Maeng Da benefits.

As with the other methods, if you felt that the results were weak or nonexistent, add 1 gram of powder or leaves to your tea dose the following day.

Repeat the process of adding one gram a day to your tea until you feel that you have reached your desired result.

When To Increase Your White Maeng Da Dose

If you ever feel like the dose you have been taking is no longer working, you can increase it using the method above and add 1 gram or 1 capsule to your dose a day again.

If you ever start to get close to doubling your original dose, you should take a tolerance break to avoid taking large quantities of White Maeng Da.

We suggest that you allow your tolerance break to last at least one month.

White Maeng Da Side Effects & How to Avoid Them

White Maeng Da Side Effects

The main reason for experiencing side effects while taking White Maeng Da is because of large doses.

Technically speaking, these people are “overdosing”, but we refrain from using that word since most of the time White Maeng Da side effects only consist of non-fatal nauseous headaches.

Depending on the size of the dose you took, the headache can be mild, or it could get bad enough to the point of throwing up.

The best way to avoid getting these negative side effects is to slowly increase your dose on a daily basis. Just like previously explained.

Headache

I have personally experienced this headache many times, but luckily, it goes away on its own in about an hour.

If you are new to taking Kratom and consume too much, you are more likely to experience a headache since you have yet to build a tolerance. This is especially true if you take it twice a day.

Getting High

This is known as another negative side effect and is much different from the high you get from something like weed. The times I have gotten high I was still mentally in control, just really dizzy. Time did not slow down, nor did I feel like laughing. 

It goes without mentioning that it was not enjoyable, and once again, the cause was taking too large of a dose.

Be smart when it comes to your dosages, and make sure to follow the guidelines I have set for you above. If you do that then you will only experience great things when taking White Maeng Da.

Hallucinations?

There are many claims that Kratom causes hallucinations, but neither myself nor anyone I’ve met has experienced this before. I’ve been using Kratom for years, as have many of my readers, and not a single person has hallucinated.

Some people may experience psychedelic tendencies, like colors being more vibrant, but never full-blown hallucinations.

Reddit user _Kosmos purchased White Maeng Da for the first time but would like some feedback before trying it. The comments have great things to say about White Maeng Da.

Notice some people claim it’s slightly mood-boosting. That may vary with each vendor and person. The White Maeng Da is not very mood-boosting but very stimulating.

Another user, swar5484, also asked the Redditsphere about their White Maeng Da opinions and received positive replies. The recurring theme in the comments is always high energy boosts.

Choosing the best strain can be very time-consuming. Trust me, I remember those days. To help you decide, I’ve compared White Maeng Da to various strains that my readers ask me about most.  

However, if you want to get to the point, this is how I would choose between the benefits: 

For energy use White Maeng Da.

For pain and relaxation, use Red Maeng Da. 

If relaxing isn’t enough and you want to boost your mood (for example, when you’re going through lots of stress or anxiety), or you need help getting motivated, take Green Maeng Da. 

For sleep, use Red Bali. 

Now, let’s jump into the more thorough comparisons. 

White Maeng Da vs Green Maeng Da

Both strains are top-notch in their space. White Maeng Da is more stimulating than Green Maeng Da, but that’s its only advantage. If you’re looking for only an energy boost, take WMD. 

If you’re looking for pain and/or anxiety relief, depression and stress relief, or motivation and focus, take Green Maeng Da. 

White Maeng Da vs White Thai

White Maeng Da produces a stronger energy boost. However, White Thai doesn’t fall far behind, and I’ve found White Thai to be slightly mood-enhancing as well. 

The choice is yours. Do you want a slightly weaker energy boost combined with a bit of mood enhancement or strictly energy? 

Neither is good for pain relief, and White Thai is only beneficial for treating mild anxiety or stress.


If you can’t decide between one or the other, invest in both. By rotating between both you’re more likely to avoid stagnant strain, a condition where you become extremely tolerant to one specific strain. 

You can rotate on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis. 

White Maeng Da vs Red Bali

Both of these strains are literally on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. WMD is mostly used for energy, while Red Bali is used for: 

  • Sleep
  • Pain relief
  • Anxiety relief
  • Physical & mental relaxation
  • Appetite suppression

Red Bali is the king of red strains and the most sedative. I think choosing between these two will be fairly easy. 

You can also mix any strains at any ratio to get the best of both worlds. 

White Maeng Da vs Red Maeng Da

WMD is obviously more energizing, while RMD is better suited for treating pain, anxiety, stress, and depression. 

RMD is also a bit mood-enhancing and not as sedative as other red strains. 

Between these two strains, I suggest taking RMD for any medicinal benefit except energy. 

White Maeng Da vs White Borneo

White Borneo is one of the few white strains that can provide decent pain relief coupled with energy. 

The energy won’t be as potent as WMD, and the pain relief won’t be as strong as a top-notch red strain, but White Borneo is a great strain for obtaining the rare duo of pain relief and energy. 

White Maeng Da vs White Bali

White Bali offers the exact same benefits as White Borneo. However, White Borneo may be slightly more effective for pain relief than White Bali. 

WMD is more energizing than both White Bali and White Borneo but will not provide the same pain-relieving effects. 

My suggestion would be to take WMD if you’re only looking for energy, White Borneo if you want pain relief and energy, and only use White Bali if you want to rotate it with White Borneo to avoid stagnant strain.
