Trying to determine how much kratom to take for your first time? Allow me to share with you the safe doses I recommend to all my readers when they have trouble figuring out where to start.
The amount of kratom you consume is going to largely depend on which form of kratom you are consuming (capsules, powder, tinctures, etc), as well as your weight.
Some people will have naturally higher or lower tolerances to substances such as kratom or caffeine, but for the sake of keeping it simply I only take weight into account. I recommend the lowest/safest dose based on weight and the form of kratom being consumed.

How Many Kratom Capsules Are The Right Amount
Kratom Krush capsules contain approximately 0.7 grams of powder per capsule.
With that being said, if you’re under 200 pounds I recommend you take 3 capsules for your first time, which adds up to 2.1 grams of powder.
If you’re 200 pounds or more, begin with 4 capsules for a total of 2.8 grams of powder.
If you failed to experience any of the effects you were looking for, wait until the next day and then add one more capsule.
For example, if you’re 205 pounds and you consumed 4 capsules as recommended but didn’t feel the effects such as anxiety relief, pain relief, or sedation, consume 5 capsules the FOLLOWING day.
Keep the pattern going by adding a capsule a day until you obtain the effects you hope for.
The reason I don’t recommend taking kratom twice in the same day for your first time is due to increasing the chances of experiencing negative side effects.

Once you build a bit of a kratom tolerance, say over the course of a few weeks, you can take kratom twice in the same day.
How Much Kratom Powder Should You Take
There’s two ways of taking kratom powder. One is known as the toss and wash, which is basically just taking a spoonful of kratom and washing it down with water.
The second form of consuming powder is by preparing a tea. Let’s look at both.
Toss and Wash For Beginners
This is my favorite way of consuming kratom because it’s fast-acting and produces the most potent results. When consuming kratom in such a direct form, I recommend starting with only 2 grams if you’re under 200 pounds.
If you don’t have a weight scale I’ll include a picture below of what 2 grams looks like in a tablespoon.
If you’re 200 pounds or heavier, you can take 3-4 grams, depending on how tolerant you are to other substances such as caffeine. I’ll include a picture of what 4 grams looks like in a tablespoon down below.
For all consumers, if you didn’t feel the effects with the recommended dosage, simply add a gram the following day.
For example, if you’re 150 pounds, and you consumed 2 grams of powder but didn’t feel the effects, add a gram to your dose the following day for a total of 3 grams.
Keep adding a gram a day until you feel the effects. However, once you feel the effects do not add more.
How Much Kratom Tea is a Good Starter Dose
Kratom Tea is a bit more tricky to figure out because of the extraction process.
Two grams of powder consumed as a toss and wash is not equivalent to two grams extracted into a tea.
Therefore, if you’re under 200 pounds I recommend you start with roughly 5 grams of powder for every cup of tea you prepare, and sip it slowly.
If you don’t feel the effects with grams, add 2 more grams the following day, and continue to add 2 grams a day until you obtain your desired effects.
For those of you who are above 200 pounds, I recommend starting 8 grams of powder for every cup of tea you make. If you don’t feel the effects add 2 grams a day.
Please keep in mind, when I refer to tea, I’m not just talking about mixing powder into a cup of water.
I mean actually simmering and extracting the alkaloids from the powder and straining the solution into a fresh cup of kratom tea.

Kratom Tincture Dose For New Users

Kratom tintcures consist of higher concentrated kratom extract liquid designed to be extremely fast acting and potent.
If you’re not sure how much to take, I recommend you begin with 5 sublingual drops regardless of your weight.
The reason you want to dispense the tincture extract underneath your tongue is due to an enzyme called amylase. Enzymes are basically proteins that facilitate physiological functions. (College was helpful after all!)
Amylase will begin to break down the tincture before it even reaches your stomach where it will be absorbed. In other words, tinctures kick in real fast!
If you don’t experience the effects you were hoping for, take 7 drops the next day, then 9 the following day and keep adding 2 drops a day until you achieve the desired effect(s).
Powder Extract Dose For Beginners
Powder extracts are a form of highly concentrated powder.
Whereas regular powder is simply processed by drying kratom leaves and grinding them into a powder, extracts continue the process by taking the powder and extracting the alkaloids into a highly concentrated liquid extract.
The liquid extract is then dried and you’re left with an extremely alkaloid concentrated powder.
Because these powders are very potent, I recommend you begin with half a gram, regardless of your weight.
If you didn’t feel the effects with .5 grams, add an additional .5 gram the following day, and keep adding half a gram a day until you feel the effects.

Does Dose Size Depend On the Effect You Want to Aquire?
I’ve read this in so many blogs, but the answer for the most part is no. The only exceptions are energy and sedation.
I’ve noticed lots of blogs online claiming you need to take x number of grams for anxiety relief and y number of grams for pain relief. That’s a bunch of balony.
If you’re using kratom to obtain pain, anxiety, depression, or stress relief or simply to boost your mood and concentration, focus on finding your ideal dose the way I have instructed throughout this post.
Once you find your perfect dose you’ll obtain the effects mentioned above with the same number of grams.
However, if your goal is to boost your energy or obtain sedation, things change just a tiny bit.
It’s true that lower doses tend to produce energizing effects while higher doses produce sedation.
Therefore, if your goal is to obtain energy, take 1-2 grams less than your regular dose. If you want to induce sedation, take 1-2 grams more than your regular dose.
If you have no idea what in the world I’m talking about, just follow the instructions I provided earlier in this post regarding the type of kratom product you intend to buy and you’ll be fine.
When Should You Increase Your Dose
Once you’ve found that perfect dose that gets you the results you want, do not add more kratom until you feel like you’re no longer experiencing the same effects.
Depending on the person, it may take a few weeks for you to notice this subtle change. Simply add a gram and keep your new dose at that amount for as long as possible.
I always tell my readers not to take kratom twice in the same day if possible, as this will shoot up their tolerance levels. Even better yet, if you can afford to take kratom only when you absolutely need it, definitely do so.
This will prevent you from having to take too much.
As an author of kratom posts, it’s quite contradictory for me to tell you to consume less kratom, but as I’ve mentioned before on this website, I value your trust and my reputation more than money.
When to Take a Kratom Tolerance Break?
I like to take a kratom break once I’ve added about 50% of my regular dose. Keep in mind I said regular dose, not the beginner doses I recommended earlier (unless you found those to be your regular doses).
For example, I usually consume roughly 5 grams of kratom powder per serving. Once I’ve gotten up to about 7-8 grams per serving of kratom I’ll dial it back by taking a kratom break.
Your kratom break should be at least one month long.
I realize many of us need kratom pretty often due to anxiety or pain, so if you can’t last a month without kratom, simply take a break for as long as you can.
If you’re taking kratom 2-3 days a day, maybe dial it back down to once a day then every other day. You’ll still see a difference in your tolerance. It may not be a huge difference but it’ll keep you from having to increase your dose.
