Too Slick (tooslick.com) is run by Jennifer Zilin. This policy explains, in plain words, what information the website collects, why, who else receives it, and what you can do about it. We collect as little as we can.
The short version
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies, no newsletter.
- We only receive personal information when you post a comment or send us a message.
- We never sell or rent your information.
Reading the website
You can read every article without giving us anything. Like every website, our hosting provider, Hostinger, automatically records technical information about each visit — your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and your browser type — in server logs used to keep the site running and secure. When someone opens a page that doesn’t exist, the website keeps a short record of the address, the referring page and the browser (not the IP address) for 7 days so we can fix broken links.
Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and (optional) website you enter, your comment, your IP address and your browser’s user agent. We use these to show your comment, to moderate comments and to fight spam. Your email address is never shown publicly.
- Gravatar: to show a profile picture next to comments, WordPress sends a scrambled version of your email address (a hash) to Gravatar, a service run by Automattic Inc. Their privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
- Spam protection: the comment form measures how long the page was open before the comment was sent, to tell people from bots. Nothing extra is stored for genuine comments.
- Cookies: if you tick “Save my name, email, and website in this browser”, WordPress stores those details in cookies on your device for one year so you don’t have to type them again.
- How long we keep it: approved comments and their details stay for as long as the comment is published. Comments marked as spam are deleted after 30 days.
Contact form
When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject and message by email, and use them only to reply to you. We keep messages only as long as needed to deal with your request.
The contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which checks that you are a person. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google. Your use of reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. reCAPTCHA is loaded on the Contact page only.
Share buttons and links
The share buttons on our articles are plain links. Nothing is sent to Facebook, X, Pinterest or LinkedIn unless you click one, and then that company’s own privacy policy applies.
Who receives your information
- Hostinger — hosts the website and its database.
- Our email provider — delivers contact form messages to us.
- Automattic (Gravatar) and Google (reCAPTCHA) — as described above.
- Authorities — only if the law requires it.
These providers may process data in the United States or other countries.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you — for example, to remove a comment and the details attached to it. Send your request through the contact form, using the same email address you used on the site, and we will respond within 30 days.
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we process comment and contact information on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and protecting the website and answering messages, and you also have the right to object to processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the rights that law gives you; we do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
Children
Too Slick is written for adults and is not intended for anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), comments are moderated, and access to the site’s administration is restricted. No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Changes to this policy
If how we handle information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
