Ultra-psychoactive THC-O is here, and now you can enjoy it in an even more potent fashion with wax products. Much more intense than standard hemp products, wax is only for experienced users – and that applies even more with a substance like THC-O.
Perhaps you aren’t familiar with THC-O or the advantages of using wax. Maybe you’ve heard of them but are looking for more information. Rest assured, in this comprehensive guide to THC-O wax, there is something for everybody!
I’ll start with my top five:
1. Binoid – THC-O Wax Dabs
Binoid’s THC-O Wax Dabs are as impressive as we have come to expect from this stellar hemp brand. Infused with an unprecedented 92% THC-O distillate, prepare for a cannabis-style trip like you have never experienced before.
Mixed in with the distillate are fruity terpenes, which make for relaxing, energizing, or beautifully balanced highs, depending on your product type. Each 1-gram sugar wax has an amber appearance and comes in a sealed, airtight container.
Binoid claims these were the first THC-O wax dabs brought to market. Whether that’s true or an exaggeration, they have set the standard. Binoid’s THC-O distillate is third-party analyzed by the Food & Environment Safety Analytical Lab.
Strains: Strawberry Blonde (Sativa – Active), Grape Ape (Indica), Banana Kush (Hybrid – Talkative)
2. Boston Hempire – Delta O Wax / Dabs – 87% THC-O
Immerse yourself in THC-O’s psychedelic-like effects with Delta O Wax from Boston Hempire. At 87% THC-O, it’s not the most potent wax on the market, but the premium Floridian hemp extract compensates for that with a smooth dabbing experience.
Boston Hempire’s wax does not contain terpenes, making for a flavor-free and pure THC-O high. However, the third-party report from ACS Laboratory did find traces of delta-8 and cannabichromene (CBC), suggesting a slight energizing twist to this wax.
It’s an affordable, Farm Bill-compliant product and an excellent way to get acquainted with THC-O concentrates. Boston Hempire’s wax doesn’t have the frills that many of its competitors’ offerings have, but sometimes that is for the best.
Sizes: 2 grams (Silicone Jar), 10 grams (Glass Jar), 10g Silicone Jars (5 x 2 grams)
3. ATLRx – THC-O Dabs
I’m always excited when a new ATLRx product hits the shelves – and these THC-O Dabs confirm why. Loaded with more than 90% THC-O and finished off with sumptuous terpenes, this is a classic concentrate that does what it says on the tin.
With three fruity strains to choose from and a selection of sativas, hybrids, and indicas, there’s an ATLRx THC-O Dab for all tastes and preferences. These wax diamonds arrive in a stylish, airtight container.
Interestingly, while many wax products can double up as edibles, ATLRx does not recommend eating these THC-O Dabs, advising they are only for vaping. Third-party tested for Farm Bill compliance.
Strains: Banana Kush, Grape Ape, Strawberry Blonde
4. New Standard Hemp Company – MOTA THC-O Wax (Northern Lights)
It makes dosing with THC-O concentrates easier than ever before, with the product coming in a glass dab syringe. You can effortlessly dabble with this 95% THC-O oil while staying informed of how much you are taking.
The Northern Lights strain produces indica-like effects and is a cross between Thai and Afghani. The terpenes in the wax give your THC-O high a relaxing feel and help generate more euphoria than other THC-O concentrates. They have a sweet and spicy taste, too!
The third-party analysis from Verde Testing shows unusually high levels of delta-8. While it’s a Farm Bill-compliant product, it’s unfortunate that the wax was not tested for solvents, pesticides, and foreign matter.
5. Moon Buzz – THC-O Dabs
For a slightly obscure brand, Moon Buzz has joined the THC-O party with a bang, introducing an extensive range that includes these super-strength dabs. Dive in with an indica, sativa, or hybrid strain, each in a sizeable 2-gram pot.
Sadly, despite the high-end packaging and impressive talk from Moon Buzz CBD, they don’t make any third-party reports available for these dabs. Their other hemp-based products come with COAs, so hopefully, they will correct this oversight soon.
Strains: Red Velvet (Sativa), Mai Tai (Indica), Italian Ice (Hybrid)
What is THC O Wax (Dab)?
They are legal, hemp-derived concentrates. Made with large amounts of THC-O distillate, wax dabs get you much higher than other types of THC-O and, indeed, other cannabinoids, such as delta-8, delta-10, HHC, and THC.
It generally has a thick and sticky consistency and an amber-tinged coloring. Products with terpenes have a cannabis aroma, which the taste reflects. These waxes usually consist of pure THC-O, but other cannabinoids may be present, too.
Dabbing and vaping are the most common ways of using THC-O waxes, but you can also smoke or eat them. I’ll discuss the pros and cons of each in a later section.
What is THC O?
THC acetate ester (THC-O) is one of the most potent cannabinoids in existence. Boasting psychoactive effects 300% stronger than THC, products containing THC-O are only for the most hardened of cannabis users.
In some ways, THC-O is similar to THC, inducing euphoric sensations and a pleasant body buzz – but with a much higher intensity. However, THC-O doesn’t hit you immediately like THC, with the effects often taking half an hour to kick in.
Furthermore, THC-O goes beyond a regular psychoactive experience into the psychedelic realm. A mind-bending THC-O can feel almost spiritual. You can’t say the same about mild and mellow strains of marijuana.
Where does hyper-potent THC-O originate? The laboratory. THC-O is not a natural substance and comes from synthesizing THC. In addition to regular THC, chemists can also make THC-O variations from delta-8 and delta-10 extract.
Right now, THC-O’s commercial value is as a recreational substance. But the cannabinoid may have undiscovered therapeutic qualities, too. After all, THC-O works in the endocannabinoid system (ECS), binding with CB1 and CB2 receptors like THC does.
In theory, THC-O may have significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. The cannabinoid might also stimulate appetite and help manage eating disorders.
But these are merely educated guesses based on what we know about THC-O’s similarities to THC. We have few studies on THC-O’s effects and essentially nothing on its possible medicinal value.
How to Use THC O Wax (Dabs)
Dabbing: If you’ve bought it, you will most likely want to dab it. But you’ll need all the dabbing rig kit to get started, which doesn’t come cheap. However, for THC-O enthusiasts, the costs are worth it and will enhance your experience.
Vaping: The downside with dabbing is that you can’t do it on the go. If you want to enjoy your THC-O wax wherever you are, I suggest investing in a vaporizer that works with concentrates. While the vapor may smell a little, it’s not as noticeable as smoking cannabis.
Likewise, you can sprinkle a few crumbs of wax into your joint for amplified psychoactive effects. That said, it’s not an efficient way of using it, as many of the cannabinoids will burn off before you get to inhale them.
Eating: Edibles do not have immediately intense effects, but the THC-O lasts longer than when dabbed or vaped. Eating activated THC-O wax essentially gives you an edible high. That said, some companies say that you shouldn’t eat their wax products.
The Legal Status of THC O Wax (Dabs)
The consensus is that this products are federally legal in the US. However, the legal landscape is perhaps more complex than for other hemp-derived products, given THC-O’s chemical structure and how it’s made.
The 2018 Agriculture Improvement Act (Farm Bill) is the legislation hemp companies reference when selling it. The bill allows hemp-based products with less than 0.3% THC, with no caps imposed on any other cannabinoid, including THC-O.
But there’s more to the story, with THC-O’s chemical structure and origins potentially presenting legal problems. Some accuse THC-O of being synthetic, while others say it should be illegal under the Federal Analog Act. I think they are both wrong.
Firstly, the THC-O used in wax products is not strictly a THC analog. Chemists synthesize the substance using delta-8 distillate, not THC or THCa extract. Crucially, delta-8 is a legal cannabinoid when derived from hemp.
Secondly, THC-O likely doesn’t meet the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) definition of synthetic. The agency classes cannabinoids made with non-cannabis materials as synthetic substances – but this description isn’t appropriate for THC-O.
The delta-8 used to produce THC-O distillate comes from naturally extracted hemp-derived CBD. Therefore, while THC-O does undergo plenty of lab processing, it retains a natural origin.
In the future, the DEA could close the legal hemp loophole and move to restrict THC-O products. Indeed, some states have already acted, with vendors refusing to ship it to a few parts of the United States. But at the federal level, there’s no disputing THC-O is legal!
Drug Tests and THC O Wax (Dabs)
Unfortunately, the risks outweigh the rewards with drug tests and THC-O wax. There’s some uncertainty about whether the cannabinoid’s metabolites appear on drug tests, but if taking a realistic and educated guess, I would suggest that they do.
If you have used THC-O recently and are worried about an upcoming drug test, consider cleansing your system or covering your tracks with a detox drink or a synthetic urine product.
What to Look for When Buying THC O Wax (Dabs)
Don’t start dropping cash on THC-O wax until you’ve taken this advice on what to look for!
Third-Party Certificates of Analysis (COA)
Unfortunately, not every THC-O wax (dab) product on the market is up to the high standards you should expect. With no official, industry-wide regulation, product quality varies significantly – some THC-O waxes don’t even contain any THC-O!
But third-party testing has helped significantly lift quality and take the fight to scammers. Legit hemp brands voluntarily get independent labs to analyze their products and verify that they are legal, safe, and have enough THC-O.
Brands then publish these reports online so customers can confirm they are the real deal before parting with their money. Even so, scammers may still try to dupe you by saying all the right things about third-party testing without supplying lab reports.
Always make sure you’ve seen the analysis before you buy. Some THC-O manufacturers provide a QR code on the product packaging you can scan to access the report.
I’m hesitant about this approach. While it’s not necessarily indicative of something untoward, it adds a layer of difficulty in finding the report and suggests the company may be covering something up.
Terpenes
Indicas: THC-O wax teeming with indica terpenes will give you a sleepier and more sedate high. As the euphoria takes over, your muscles relax, and your mind quietens.
Sativas: For a THC-O high with an energizing kick, check out wax dabs made with sativa terpenes.
Hybrids: If you aren’t sure which to choose but want a THC-O product for all circumstances, choose a hybrid strain that lies in between India and Sativa products.
How to Store Your THC O Wax (Dabs)
Store your THC-O wax dabs in an airtight container, away from direct sunlight, and in a dry, cool, dark place. Keep out of reach of children.
How Long do THC O Wax (Dabs) Last?
If dabbing, vaping, or smoking, your THC-O high may last for between four to six hours. An edible-style psychoactive experience obtained from eating wax may last significantly longer.
Purchasing THC O Wax (Dabs) Online vs. Shops Near Me
When buying hemp-based products such as THC-O wax, you’ll find higher quality products and get better value for money at online vendors. Brick-and-mortar stores tend to charge more or stock cheap fakes that are not third-party tested.
