The Rise of Water-Soluble CBD: Enhancing Absorption and Effectiveness

Water-soluble CBD promises to be the next big thing in the CBD market. Making CBD more bioavailable and absorbable is crucial to maximizing this remarkable hemp-derived substance, and scientists have now learned how to do just that!

In this comprehensive guide to water-soluble nano-CBD, I’ll explain the technology behind the development and discuss how it benefits you. I’ll also show you how to identify the brands making genuine water-soluble hemp products in an industry notorious for being hit-and-miss!

First, though, I want to showcase the five best water-soluble, hemp-based CBD products that money can buy.

1. Active CBD Oil – Extra Strength Water-Soluble Tincture (900mg)

Water Soluble CBD

Enjoy more potent CBD effects than ever before with a strong water-soluble Tincture from Active CBD Oil. Each 60ml bottle comes with 900mg CBD extract (15mg/ml) that’s 100% activated, water-soluble, and free from THC.

Active CBD Oil uses all-natural ingredients and never includes additives or preservatives in its CBD tinctures. Stay authentic with the earthy, unflavored CBD oil, or choose from one of three flavored tinctures in their collection. Take it under the tongue or mix it with food or drink.

These oils consist of CO2-extracted hemp for maximum purity – the high-end extraction method eliminates heavy metals and solvents. All tinctures are made with non-GMO hemp and are third-party tested by Botanacor.

Flavors: Berry, Cinnamon, Unflavored, Vanilla

2. CBD American Shaman – Full-Spectrum Water-Soluble CBD Hemp Oil

Water Soluble CBD

Now established as a leader in the hemp market, CBD American Shaman has come good with its water-soluble, full-spectrum CBD Hemp Oil. Loaded with 300mg of highly bioavailable CBD extract (10mg/ml), get ready for impressively potent effects.

CBD American Shaman cuts fat CBD molecules down to size using nanotechnology, meaning each dose goes much further than it typically would – 10 times further! The oil is ideal for classic sublingual absorption under the tongue but also works as a food ingredient.

Choose from seven flavors – two of which are limited edition – and a natural unflavored CBD oil. Made in the United States and certified by the US Hemp Authority. All tinctures are Farm Bill compliant, THC-free, and third-party tested by Green Scientific Labs.

Flavors: Cherry Limeade, Grape, Lemon, Natural, Pina Colada, Hot Cocoa (Limited Edition), Peppermint (Limited Edition)

3. Prima – Brain Fuel CBD Powder

Water Soluble CBD

Make brain fog and low energy levels a thing of the past with rejuvenating CBD brain fuel. Prima combines broad-spectrum hemp extract with carefully chosen adaptogens in its water-soluble Brain Fuel CBD Powder.

Every box comes with 20sachets, each containing 15mg CBD extract and generous servings of Rhodiola, ginkgo, ashwagandha, and Lion’s Mane. These herbs and mushroom extracts will blast away any mental fatigue!

Mix Prima’s water-soluble CBD powder with water or a hot or cold beverage of your choice! This product is non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan-friendly, and made using cruelty-free practices. USA-made and third-party tested by Columbia Laboratories.

4. Pure Craft – Nano CBD Water-Soluble Tincture for Pets

Water Soluble CBD

CBD isn’t just for humans! Pets can benefit from this phenomenal substance, too. But you’ll need a product developed with pets in mind. Step in this Nano CBD Water-Soluble Tincture from Pure Craft, which has a hefty 250mg broad-spectrum extract (8.3mg/ml).

Our four-legged pals cannot safely consume any THC, hence why Pure Craft uses a THC-free extract! However, your cat or dog will still benefit from hemp’s other essential non-intoxicating cannabinoids. These include cannabidivarin (CBDV) and cannabichromene (CBC).

Administer directly or – if you find it easier! – squirt some oil into your pet’s food or water bowl. Pets are fussy, but they won’t even notice this flavorless tincture. Organically grown, non-GMO, and 100% natural, Pure Craft’s tincture has passed APRC’s third-party checks.

5. Mello – Mello Mind Full-Spectrum Water-Soluble CBD Oil

Water Soluble CBD

Finally, we have Mello’s Full-Spectrum Water-Soluble Tincture, which Mello claims is unique in the hemp industry. That claim doesn’t pass the smell check, but this is still a fun CBD oil, loaded with 1200mg CBD extract (40mg/ml) and an array of minor cannabinoids.

Mello uses CO2-extracted full-spectrum distillate and blends grapeseed, rosemary, and quillaja extract powder into the tincture, which has a peppery flavor. As a water-soluble product, you can conveniently add this CBD oil to food or drink and still enjoy rapid effects.

There’s a lot to like about Mello’s water-soluble tincture, not least that it consists of US-grown, USDA-certified hemp. But sadly, I couldn’t find a third-party lab report, despite the company’s promises on testing. If they correct this, I’ll happily revise my rating!

What is Water-Soluble CBD?

Water-soluble CBD products contain hemp extract that has undergone nanotechnology processing to improve bioavailability. Typically, CBD molecules have a low oral absorption rate – perhaps as low as 6% – meaning nearly all the CBD in a classic dose goes to waste.

Nanotechnology tackles this by breaking large CBD molecules into smaller pieces, enhancing bioavailability and absorption. Most researchers believe that solving CBD’s bioavailability issue is vital to maximizing its therapeutic potential.

We must remember that the CBD industry is still relatively new and in its foundational stages. Now that legal and safe CBD products are on the market, companies can focus on fine-tuning and perfecting them.

Water solubility and nanotechnology could unlock a new era in CBD. At present, water-soluble tinctures steal the show.

But we could see brands harness the tech to make premium CBD-infused beverages in the future. Indeed, some companies are already producing CBD sparkling water.

What is CBD?

CBD Formula

CBD (or cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound derived from cannabis, used worldwide as a supplement and alternative medicine. CBD is one of at least 113 cannabinoids found only in cannabis plants.

Unlike THC-rich weed, consuming CBD won’t get you stoned. Science shows that CBD and THC have opposite effects on the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).

CBD inhibits CB1 receptor activity but makes more of the body’s natural endocannabinoids available by blocking the FAAH enzyme. Commentators often describe CBD as an ECS regulator and modulator. CBD does this by promoting endocannabinoids like anandamide.

We have much to learn about the ECS and its effect on our overall well-being. But recent decades have proven enlightening. After years of its existence being mooted, scientists officially identified the ECS in the 1990s.

Since then, scientists have proposed that humans have always had an ECS, indicating that our relationship with cannabis goes back tens of thousands of years! If the ECS is so critical to our well-being and CBD is so essential for the ECS, no wonder folks can’t get enough!

Health Benefits of CBD

The lack of clinical research means we cannot confidently speak about CBD’s health benefits. But with millions of Americans using CBD edibles and other products regularly, we can glean plenty of information by asking people why they take them!

Thankfully, some scientists have already done that. Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research published a paper in 2018 with fascinating data compiled via an online survey from more than 2,400 CBD users.

Chronic pain, arthritis pain, anxiety, depression, and insomnia topped the list of why people use CBD. More than 65% reported that CBD products treat their ailment very well or moderately well.

Of course, these current CBD users probably wouldn’t be taking products or answering the survey if they didn’t find them helpful. But the data are still staggering.

How to Take Water-Soluble CBD Tinctures

Water-Soluble CBD Tinctures

Sublingual absorption and oral ingestion are both effective ways of taking water-soluble tinctures. However, despite the similar appearance, you should never vape CBD oil.

Some suggest that you don’t need to go down the sublingual route with water-soluble products – but it remains the most efficient delivery method. Squeeze some CBD oil into the bottom of your mouth and hold it for as long as you can, preferably up to one minute.

Sublingual absorption makes for rapid CBD effects, and you’ll start seeing the benefits after around 15 minutes. When you need fast relief, sublingual absorption has your back!

For discretion and convenience, you may favor oral ingestion (i.e., mixing CBD oil with food and beverages). It’s as simple as adding a tincture dose to your meal or drink and enjoying it as usual! But you may be waiting up to an hour for the effects to kick in.

Water-Soluble CBD vs. Regular CBD

Not all product types have a water-soluble option available. Of course, if the product is not water-based, it would be impossible to use water-soluble extract!

But when you get the choice, I recommend water-soluble products. While they seem expensive for the quantity of CBD you get, they are more cost-effective when you factor in that the extract goes much further.

For that reason, it takes time to adjust to water-soluble CBD. You’ll need to start thinking smaller with your dosages to compensate for the much-improved bioavailability.

What to Look for When Buying Water-Soluble CBD

We’ve looked at what water-soluble CBD is and its benefits. Now, let’s discuss how to find a high-quality product. First, make sure you aren’t getting scammed. After that, you can start weighing up the pros and cons of a CBD tincture.

If nothing in my top-five list has caught your eye, here’s what you need to look for when buying water-soluble hemp products.

Third-Party Certificates of Analysis (COAs)

Independent laboratory testing ensures CBD products are Farm Bill compliant, genuine, and safe. The peculiar system, which isn’t subject to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation, has become commonplace in the hemp industry.

Third-party testing allows top brands to prove themselves to customers by being fully transparent about what’s in their products. Of course, dodgy companies selling low-grade products cannot risk being so transparent.

But in not having products third-party tested, these poor-quality brands expose themselves anyway. That’s why third-party testing works! Always seek out brands that can show you up-to-date COAs.

Reports should cover CBD and THC concentrations and minor cannabinoid levels. The best labs also carry out purity checks.

CBD Strength

Compared with regular CBD products, water-soluble offerings look weak. But remember, higher bioavailability means even lower dosages may be more effective.

Once adjusted to water-soluble dosages, you’ll still need a product with an appropriate strength. Compare tinctures by weighing up the total amount of CBD and how much you get per ml (full dropper).

Type of Hemp Extract

CBD-isolate: For a CBD-only experience, pick a product containing CBD-isolate hemp. Extraction involves separating the CBD from all other components of the hemp plant. However, the absence of other cannabinoids somewhat limits the benefits.

Broad-spectrum: Enjoy extra health benefits while retaining peace of mind with drug tests. Broad-spectrum or THC-free extract consists of CBD and other hemp-derived cannabinoids, with the THC filtered out.

Full-spectrum: Maximize your water-soluble experience with full-spectrum hemp. Packed with a full set of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, full-spectrum hemp extract is the most effective of the three. However, the small amount of THC could make you fail a drug test.

How to Store Your Water-Soluble CBD Products

Store Your Water-Soluble CBD

Store your water-soluble CBD products away from direct sunlight and in a cool, dry place (e.g., a cupboard). Although CBD is non-psychoactive, you should keep products out of the reach and sight of children.

How Long Do Water-Soluble CBD Products Last?

CBD water-soluble products should last for more than a year if stored appropriately. I’ve heard anecdotes of CBD products still being fresh and potent more than two years after purchase. Once opened, the CBD may degrade more quickly due to oxidation.

Purchasing Water-Soluble CBD Online vs. Shops Near Me

Purchasing Online

Water-soluble CBD is more difficult to find than regular CBD. Buying online is your best option, but not only for reasons of convenience. Products featured in specialist online hemp stores are usually of higher quality than those available at headshops and gas stations.

Leading hemp stores specializing in CBD always double-check the products they sell are effective and accompanied by a third-party COA.
