What is CBD Sparkling Water?

CBD sparkling water is a hemp-infused beverage with rich quantities of CBD. Typically, these drinks also contain adaptogens (i.e., guarana, ginseng, ashwagandha) for additional health benefits and natural flavorings.

Perfect as a morning awakener or as a tonic to perk up your afternoons, CBD sparkling water will leave you feeling refreshed and reinvigorated. CBD consumed in beverage form releases slowly into your system, ensuring the effects stay with you for many hours.

In essence, CBD sparkling water functions similarly to an edible product. When orally ingested, the CBD absorbs into the bloodstream via the stomach – this explains the slow onset of effects and gradual CBD release.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most prominent non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in the hemp plant. The cannabis plant has more than 110 cannabinoids. While classic marijuana has more THC than CBD, hemp strains have the opposite makeup.

CBD’s non-psychoactive nature makes it attractive to those turned off by using marijuana for therapeutic purposes due to its mind-altering effects. Maybe you cannot take psychoactive drugs because of medical or religious reasons.

CBD interacts with receptors from multiple systems in the body but does its most essential work in the endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD is an antagonist of the CB1 receptor and plays a modulating role in the ECS.

While not a recreational substance, CBD’s relaxing and anxiety-relieving qualities can help make social situations more manageable if you usually get nervous and edgy.

As scientists have learned more about CBD and its properties, the cannabinoid has become a supplement and natural medicine in the wellness scene. Despite CBD having few approved medical uses, more than 60% of CBD consumers take products to self-medicate.

Benefits of CBD sparkling water

Before examining CBD-infused sparkling water’s therapeutic value, let’s discuss how these products work. Generally, CBD water comes in cans or bottles – on average 355ml or 12 fl. oz – and has between 10 to 20mg of hemp extract.

These aren’t the most potent CBD products on the market – they are more for mild to moderate users looking for discretion and convenience when dosing with CBD. The slow, edible-like release also works well for chronic symptoms.

Mild pain: CBD is popular for pain relief, and sparkling water’s extended effects may be useful against mild chronic pain. The steady delivery of CBD could help during the day, especially if you have a physically demanding job. It may improve sleep quality at night, too.

Stress and anxiety: CBD’s anxiolytic qualities promote calmness and tranquillity. If you constantly find yourself feeling stressed, on edge, and trapped in negative thought patterns, sparkling water with CBD could make a positive difference.

Endocannabinoid system regulation: The ECS still doesn’t get the attention it deserves. But that’s no surprise since the science community didn’t know of its existence until the ‘90s!

However, the ECS regulates several functions related to the mind and body, including mood, appetite, and the immune system. It makes sense to keep it regulated, and CBD does just that.

Reduces marijuana tolerance: Non-psychoactive CBD has value for hardcore recreational cannabis users, helping to combat THC tolerance.

Over time, cannabinoid receptors become desensitized to THC, with increasingly higher doses needed for the same psychoactive intensity. That makes marijuana use an expensive pleasure and could also lead to damaging long-term effects.

But CBD helps reset your ECS, bringing sensitivity back to your cannabinoid receptors. When taking a few days off the weed, I recommend hemp-infused sparkling water to nudge your ECS in the right direction and stave off any cravings.

Is CBD Sparkling Water Legal?

CBD sparkling water made with hemp extract is legal at the federal level. Per the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-based products must have less than 0.3% THC.

CBD-infused sparkling water with more than 0.3% THC would not be classed as hemp but as marijuana – this would make it a Schedule 1 drug. Therefore, all companies are conscious about making products with minimal amounts of THC or none whatsoever.

Many brands use CBD-isolate or broad-spectrum hemp extract when making sparkling water because this eliminates the THC. However, some prefer full-spectrum hemp, as the small quantity of THC enhances the health benefits and brings out the entourage effect.

Keep in mind that any amount of THC could make you fail a drug test. Stick with CBD-isolate or broad-spectrum sparkling water if tested often. Even though full-spectrum hemp with less than 0.3% THC is legal, it’s still the same substance found in regular marijuana.

What to Look for When Buying CBD Sparkling Water

CBD’s explosion into the mainstream is undoubtedly good, but there is one downside – seemingly everyone is trying to get in on the bandwagon. New companies always pop up, and several established brands have recently started offering CBD, too.

The lack of regulation from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) complicates matters further for buyers. If you want a solid sparkling CBD water to start with, please see my top five list. For an idea of what to look for when shopping, read on.

Third-party certificates of analysis

Independent lab reports separate genuine CBD sparkling water retailers from sketchy businesses and out-and-out scammers. Any product accompanied by a third-party certificate immediately goes up, in my estimation, as it’s a sign of honesty and transparency.

CBD water reports should contain details about the amount of CBD and secondary cannabinoids (i.e., cannabinol, cannabigerol, and cannabichromene). The levels of THC will confirm whether a product complies with Farm Bill regulations.

Not all lab analyses cover purity, but I prefer those that do. Nobody wants to drink sparkling water riddled with heavy metals, mycotoxins, residual solvents, and other impurities.

Use of nanotechnology

It’s well-known that big, lumpy CBD molecules have poor water solubility, which makes for inefficient absorption into the bloodstream. The top CBD manufacturers solve this problem by utilizing nanotechnology, which breaks the CBD into smaller chunks.

Therefore, CBD nano extract is more potent than regular CBD hemp extract. A 10mg dose of the former goes further than a 10mg dose of the latter.

CBD water made with nanotechnology may be more expensive. But providing it isn’t too pricey and is usually better.

How to Store Your CBD Sparkling Water

CBD-infused sparkling water tastes best when cold. Keep your product refrigerated and sealed until ready for consumption. If opened, the water could lose effectiveness as oxidation destroys the cannabinoids.

I also recommend storing your water in a dark, cool place, even if it comes in an opaque can or bottle. But transparent bottles are at the highest risk of degradation from UV rays. So, don’t leave your CBD water exposed to sunlight!

How Long Does CBD Sparkling Water Last?

CBD’s effects last for around six to eight hours when consumed in water. You may find it takes up to an hour before you start noticing the benefit.

Purchasing CBD Sparkling Water Online vs. Shops Near Me

I prefer online stores over local brick-and-mortar shops when purchasing CBD products like sparkling water. Not only is there more choice online, but products typically cost a bit less, and I can get a better idea of their legitimacy.

Third-party reports are commonly available when shopping online at a top CBD retailer. Non-specialist brick-and-mortar stores (i.e., gas stations) don’t always have such high regard for safety.
