The Top 5 CBD Soaps: Elevate Your Skincare with CBD-infused Luxury

You can now add CBD to your bathing routine with CBD soap! The benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids for the skin are well-documented, and what better way to get them than in the form of premium, handcrafted, and perfectly legal soap?

Whether CBD’s skincare benefits are new to you or you’re looking to gain a deeper understanding, you have come to the right place. I’ll be exploring CBD and hemp’s therapeutic properties in detail and much more. But I want to kick things off with the five best CBD soaps of 2023!

1. CBD American Shaman – CBD Soap

CBD Soap

CBD American Shaman has infused 75mg of full-spectrum hemp extract into these delightful, handcrafted CBD soap bars. This soap has a pleasant hydrating and moisturizing effect and is ideal if you have sensitive skin.

Now a leader in hemp-based skincare products, CBD American Shaman uses non-GMO, US-grown hemp in its soap bars. The soap also consists of other beneficial ingredients, such as shea butter, jojoba oil, and avocado oil.

All CBD American Shaman products are independently tested by Botanacor. A brand you can trust, I’m confident that this CBD soap can positively affect your skin.

Scent: Deep Spicy Wood, Sweet Almond, Fresh Mint

2. Casco Bay Hemp – CBD Soap (Vanilla Oak & Charcoal)

CBD Soap

The Vanilla Oak & Charcoal CBD Soap from Casco Bay Hemp registers at an impressive 75mg CBD. The vanilla oak will leave you smelling fresh, while the charcoal helps open and unclog your pores, clearing away dead skin cells and toxins.

The company appears to use CBD-isolate extract, somewhat limiting the soap’s benefits. However, the inclusion of Olea oil, aloe vera leaf juice, and vitamin E more than compensates for the basic hemp extract. You’ll also be totally safe with drug tests.

Casco Hemp Bay’s CBD soap is a third-party lab tested by Esotera Laboratory. All looks good with the report, whether you choose the Vanilla Oak & Charcoal soap or the unscented version.

3. M Soaps – CBD Activated Charcoal Tea Tree Therapeutic Bar

CBD Soap

Next up, we have a CBD Activated Charcoal Tea Tree bar from M Soaps. All-natural and vegan-friendly, this 5.5oz soap contains 50mg of CBD, comprised of CBD-isolate and raw hemp extract.

The charcoal helps unclog your pores, while the tea tree promotes smooth and clear skin. M Soaps also adds in coconut oil and RSPO palm oil, creating a moisturizing, therapeutic wonder. I also love the handmade black-and-white coloring of this soap.

M Soaps specializes in CBD skincare products, with Encore Labs providing third-party lab reports. The analyses confirm these bars are up to standard, with the right quantity of CBD and not a smidge of THC.

4. CBD Living – Nano Hemp CBD Soap Bar

CBD Soap

This all-natural hemp soap bar from CBD Living is sized at 4.4oz and contains 100mg of nano CBD. Designed with maximum rejuvenation in mind, these guys have used proprietary skin retention technology to help the CBD penetrate the skin and provide long-lasting effects.

The soap is vegan-friendly and manufactured with non-GMO hemp cultivated at state-licensed farms in Colorado and Oregon. CBD Living uses a broad-spectrum, THC-free hemp extract and has also added a selection of essential oils.

The third-party report from Cannalysis shows the soap has sufficient levels of CBD and trace amounts of CBDV, CBG, CBN, and CBC. It gets a thumbs-up from me!

Variants: Lavender, Amber Bergamot, Coconut Lime, Eucalyptus

5. Pacha CBD – CBD Bar Soap

CBD Soap

We finish up with this Cedarwood & Bergamot Grounding CBD Soap Bar from Pacha CBD. Infused with 25mg of full-spectrum hemp extract, the 4oz soap isn’t the most potent on the market, but it’s still a worthy addition to the list.

The full-spectrum extract draws out hemp’s famous entourage effect, enhancing CBD’s benefits for the skin. The shea butter, fruit oil, plant-derived natural fragrances, and vitamin E all have crucial roles to play, too.

Pacha’s organic CBD soap is vegan-friendly, gluten-free, and has less than 0.3% THC. It’s handcrafted in the USA and made without parabens and sulfates.

Pacha CBD makes a lot of big claims and is happy to answer questions, but the lack of a third-party report for this soap goes against them.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring substance present in the cannabis plant. Non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating, CBD couldn’t be more different from marijuana. It won’t make you paranoid or anxious, but it offers an array of therapeutic effects.

CBD is a cannabinoid, a special compound class that mostly functions in the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). Research indicates that the ECS regulates several areas of well-being, including pain sensation and immune system health.

Even though CBD comes from cannabis, it’s legal in the United States under certain circumstances. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized the hemp plant and its compounds, including CBD, hence why the industry has gone mainstream and is booming.

The law defines “hemp” as Cannabis Sativa L. plants with less than 0.3% THC. In practical terms, this means there’s no restriction on how much CBD products like CBD soap can have. But THC levels must remain below that strict threshold.

CBD products with more than 0.3% THC would technically be classified as marijuana and Schedule 1 drug. That’s why hemp brands like CBD American Shaman are at pains to point out that their products are federally or Farm Bill compliant.

What is CBD soap?

CBD soap is much like regular soap, except it’s infused with a substantial amount of hemp-derived CBD. And it’s more than a gimmick. CBD – and minor cannabinoids such as CBG – do have an impact on the skin. Studies show the skin is teeming with cannabinoid receptors, vanilloid receptors, and more.

CBD soaps are typically high-end and something of a luxury. These skincare products generally combine CBD extract with essential oils and other natural ingredients that benefit the skin. We’ll touch upon these other ingredients later.

The cheapest CBD soaps usually contain CBD-isolate extract (i.e., pure CBD). The most effective soaps are made with full-spectrum hemp extract, which consists of secondary cannabinoids but also a little THC.

Even at minimal levels, the THC content is problematic for some and opens the door to a failed drug test. If you want to maximize the benefits of hemp while eliminating the risk, try a broad-spectrum or THC-free soap – these have minor cannabinoids but no THC.

Benefits of CBD soap

On a basic level, CBD soap moisturizes, hydrates, and nourishes the skin, similarly to any other soap. But the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties and the antioxidant-rich nature of these products set them apart from standard soaps.

The anti-inflammatory effects of CBD work to reduce any redness, itchiness, and swelling on the skin and may also alleviate acne symptoms. And if CBD is indeed effective for pain relief, it could be good at easing aches and discomfort.

Cannabinoids are potent antioxidants, and their presence in CBD soap moisturizes and brightens the skin while clearing up any wrinkles and fine lines. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can also damage the skin, but CBD soap helps form a protective layer of antioxidants.

Common ingredients found in CBD soap

Each brand uses a unique combination of ingredients when making CBD soap, but a few seem to pop up repeatedly. Here’s a quick overview of five of them.

Shea butter: An effective anti-inflammatory and moisturizing agent, pretty much all CBD soaps contain shea butter. The ingredient is an antioxidant with anti-aging properties and helps combat skin flare-ups.

Charcoal: An excellent exfoliator, charcoal opens your pores and clears out any gunk and dead skin cells. In addition, charcoal has antibacterial properties, may reduce acne, and generally leaves your skin looking fresh and glowing.

Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil is another brilliant moisturizer nourishing and hydrating skin. It’s hypoallergenic and, therefore, ideal for folks with sensitive skin. Jojoba oil is an antioxidant, too! Not all CBD soaps have jojoba oil, but I always look out for it!

Tea tree oil: Fantastic for soothing irritated and painful skin, tea tree oil is a clever ingredient to include in a CBD soap. The essential oil is an effective anti-inflammatory and promotes clean and smooth skin.

Vitamin E: One of the most potent antioxidants known to man, vitamin E is a vital ingredient in any soap. Applying vitamin E topically has a nourishing effect and also helps the skin fight off free radicals and damage caused by the sun’s UV rays.

What to Look for When Buying CBD Soap

Doing your research is especially important when purchasing CBD products. The industry is still finding its feet, with new brands popping up almost daily. The lack of regulation makes the CBD market a bit of a minefield.

But with some industry knowledge, acquiring high-quality CBD soap at low prices is actually really easy. I look for the following three things when buying CBD soap. Oh, and a quick reminder – don’t forget to check out my top five CBD soaps while you’re here!

Third-party certificates of analysis

So, a brand says that its CBD soap is legal, has an impressive quantity of CBD, and is free from any impurities. That all sounds good, but without a third-party lab report to back it up, there’s no way of knowing if they are telling the truth.

Even though CBD companies don’t need a third-party test result to sell CBD products, the best ones don’t miss this step. It shows a commitment to making quality CBD soap and signals that the team has an ethical and transparent approach.

I only ever buy CBD soap from companies that supply an up-to-date independent certificate of analysis. In my experience, mainstream cosmetic and skincare brands are the worst offenders when it comes to not providing third-party reports for CBD products.

Type of hemp extract

Make sure you check what type of hemp extract is used in a CBD soap before parting with your cash. While full-spectrum soap is more effective, you must be wary of the THC content.

CBD-isolate soap doesn’t have THC, so you can expect to pay less, considering it isn’t quite as effective. Broad-spectrum CBD soap should be priced closely to a full-spectrum soap.

Full ingredients list

Most brands make a big deal out of one or two headline ingredients, such as charcoal and tea tree oil. But it’s worth scanning the full ingredients list to check whether there’s anything that could trigger an allergic reaction.

Companies making skincare products are generally careful, using hypoallergenic ingredients. But if you have got sensitive skin, be sure to take extra precautions.

How to Store Your CBD Soap

I recommend storing CBD soap in an airtight container and in a cool, dark cupboard when not using it. Keeping the soap sealed and away from direct sunlight will help protect the active ingredients from oxidation and light degradation.

How Long Does CBD Soap Last?

In theory, CBD soap could last up to two years if stored in ideal conditions. However, most soaps are small (less than 6oz), so you will probably get through them within a few months. Remember to follow my storage tips if you plan on keeping your soap for long periods.

Purchasing CBD Soap Online vs. Shops Near Me

You can get the best deals on CBD soap and more variety by shopping online rather than going to your local health store. In addition, you’re less likely to get scammed if you buy from an online vendor that specializes in CBD and other hemp-based products.

Unfortunately, brick-and-mortar stores can be hit-and-miss with CBD. Those with a subpar understanding of the industry are prone to stocking poor-quality CBD and not providing relevant third-party reports.
